Components of crawler crane

The crawler crane is a mobile crane that installs the lifting operation part on the crawler chassis and relies on the crawler device for walking. The crawler undercarriage parts mainly include track shoe, track roller, top roller, sprocket and idler. In daily use, these five parts have their own important roles.

Track shoe with its pins and bolts and nuts make up the track shoe assembly. The track shoe assembly plays a role of increasing contact area with the ground and support the whole machine body.

Track roller, some times called bottom roller or lower roller. Usually it is on the bottom of the machine. It support the machine weight and let the crawler move along it.

Top roller, corresponding to the bottom roller, it is on the top of the machine. It holds the crawler upward so that the crawler has a certain extension.

Sprocket, on the rear of the crawler crane. It transmits the driving action. Connecting with the travel reducer, transmits the power to the crawler, thereby driving the entire chassis forward.

Idler, in front of the crawler crane, guide the track to rotate correctly and prevent it from running off track and overrunning.

Characteristics of crawler crane

Due to the particularity of the crawler crane chassis parts, it has outstanding advantages. Because large contact area between the crane and the ground, low center of gravity and small average specific pressure, it can work on soft and muddy ground. And it has large traction capacity, strong climbing ability, can drive on rough and uneven ground, and wth large lifting capacity and good stability.

Disadvantage of crawler crane is that they are self-heavy machine and has low running speed. So for long distance transportation, it must require additional heavy haulage tools.
